With the new generations of iPhones and iPads, Apple decided to ditch the Home Button and adopt new gesture-based navigation. Also, the new edge-to-edge display design does not leave room for the home button. Many people coming from the older version of iPhones or iPads were used to the home button that usually took them to the home screen irrespective of the app they are using. In case you are not comfortable using the new gesture-based navigation then, there's an alternative that allows you to add the good old home button on your iOS device called Assistive Touch.
The Assistive Touch is a virtual home button that floats around the display and apart from serving as a home button it can also be customised for single-tap, double-tap, long-press or 3D touch (supported device only) to perform several tasks. Tapping the Assistive Touch button opens up several menu options that give quick access to the notification panel, control centre, etc.
This feature also comes handy for users whose home button is malfunctioning.

1.Open 'Settings' on your iPhone
2.Scroll down and look for 'Accessibility' option
3.Tap on 'Assistive Touch'
4.Now, turn on the toggle from the Assistive Touch page
5.Once done, you will be able to see a new floating button on your screen
How to customise the Assistive Touch button
From the Assistive Touch menu, select the option 'Customize Top Level menu.'
Select the number of shortcuts you want and tap on the '+' icon to add the actions. Apart from this, users can also customise the single/double tap and 3D touch action.
There are several actions to choose from such as Home, Open menu, app switcher, volume up/down and more.
For those using the latest iPhones or iPads can drag the home button at the center of the bottom screen to use it as a home button.
